Hosts of "Talking Taunton Sports" Want to be Heard

TAUNTON — The start of May also brought the start of a new sport show, “Talking Taunton Sports” to your local cable access channel here in the city.

It’s the newest sport show to hit Taunton broadcasting in the last three years. Monday, Oct. 22 marked its 12th episode on the air.

Producers, partners and friends for more than three years, Dominic Damiano and Shawn Amaral have begun their first sports venture with running this sport show, something they hope will lead to a career. Besides producing the show, they are in charge of what sports get covered, or followed, and who will be their guests.

The show has gained some fans, and quickly has increased local awareness of the sports scene. The hosts say that fans go up to them in the streets and tell them how great the show is.

How long exactly, has this show been running again?

“Not even three months,” said Damiano. To see why it is gaining in popularity here in Taunton, Damiano invites people to tune in and see what all of the buzz is about.

Deals with youth sports

Talking Taunton Sports mostly deals with youth sports in the city. The hosts do this show to promote young athletes here.

“It highlights youth sports, organizations and shows them off,” said Damiano.

The clown of the two, Amaral, puts it slightly differently.

“To expose most youth sports in the city; it opens up the eyes to the good kids,” said Amaral.

He added that their show doesn’t just focus on that one kid who did something, or who is most recognized.

They don’t “spotlight,” in Amaral’s words, “that bad kid.”

Instead, the men focus on the kids who did something right; giving recognition to those who deserve it; maybe those who are underrated; and showing appreciation to those within the Taunton community who don’t get talked about as much.

The two producers go wherever the action is. They don’t just follow sports from their studio on Taunton Green. If a game is going on, or another sporting-related event outside the studio, they are there with their cameras, microphones and Amaral’s big laugh.

The half-hour show features guests ranging from league managers to soccer league presidents to teens.

If you are into sports, tune in. The show runs on Channel 15 on Wednesdays at 7:30 p.m., and Thursdays at 5:30 p.m.

Damiano also would be happy to hear from you. Send him any comments or ideas that you may have for or about the show to talkingtauntonsports@yahoo.com.
